Air Cargo live animals | Air shipping

How do you transport an elephant from Africa or deliver dolphins to an oceanarium?

Over a number of years, Volga-Dnepr has successfully accomplished many live cargo transportation projects. The airline’s experts are highly experienced in creating the correct cargo cabin conditions to ensure the safe carriage of live animals.

Habitual temperature profile throughout the trip, the necessary humidity level, minimal pressure bumps — at Volga-Dnepr each transportation is carefully planned and usually requires ingenious solutions such as operating a low-level flight to ensure the comfort of the animals.

March 2013

Bison are the latest live animal shipment to be safely transported by Volga-Dnepr Airlines. They were carried onboard an IL-76TD-90VD cargo flight to Yakutsk in Russia from Edmonton, Canada.

The 30 bison calves travelled in special containers that had been previously delivered to Canada by Volga-Dnepr Airlines. The animals were accompanied by veterinaries and representatives of the Canadian Elk Island National Park to ensure their health and comfort during the journey. The IL-76TD-90VD flight was organised by the Russian broker Aerologic Line, who chartered the Volga-Dnepr aircraft on behalf of the Ministry of Nature of the Republic of Yakutia.

November 2008

Volga-Dnepr’s IL-76TD-90VD carried three polar beluga whales from Vladivistok (Russia) to Narita (Japan).

July 2006

An IL-76TD-90VD aircraft transported four Indian elephants from Utapao (Thailand) to Cocos Islands (Australia). The next day, their four brothers joined them after being safely transported on a second IL-76 flight. Each animal weighed 4 tons.

October 2002

11 dolphins were carefully delivered from Japan to Taiwan onboard an An-124 for a new ocean park. Each “passenger” was carried in its own container and the flight was operated at a low height. A constant temperature of 15°C was preserved in the cabin throughout the flight.
